Flower Child Curls Protein Treatment Gelatin is hydrolyzed collagen protein. This may not be an option for individuals who are vegetarian or vegan, but for those who are not, it is a great source of protein for the hair.
You have probably heard some things about the healing power of protein treatments. While this has a lot of truth to it, it may be news to hear that many people are doing it wrong. As you know by now, hair strands are covered in layers of cuticles. These cuticles protect the inner cortex (layer underneath the cuticles) and are responsible for a lot of the hair’s strength, appearance, and water intake. In this way, the cuticles act as a shield. Cuticles are made from protein. Some of these cuticles will gain some damage (by becoming raised, broken, cracked, or completely removed). Protein treatments combat this damage by filling in the gaps of absent or damaged cuticles. As mentioned before, a balance between moisture and protein is essential to maintaining healthy hair.
So how have many people been doing it wrong? USING PROTEINS THAT ARE TOO BIG and therefore not small enough to fit in the gaps left from damaged cuticles. Proteins from eggs and mayonnaise are examples of these types of big proteins, which will be pretty much useless in patching up the structure of the hair by filling very tiny gaps.
In order for proteins to be the right small size, they have to be hydrolyzed. This means that, with the use of water the proteins have been broken down into smaller proteins. So even though the word may sound scary, the process is not. This is typically done by cosmetic chemists, and is not easily done at home. The result is tiny proteins that can easily fill the gaps left from cuticle and cortex damage. See below the full recipe for Flower Child Curls Protein Treatment Mixture Procedure.
FLOWER CHILD CURLS PROTEIN TREATMENT RECIPE : Needed Items: Flower Child Curls Protein Treatment, Water.
1. Combine 3 tablespoons gelatin powder with 1 cup and 2 tablespoons of water (18 tablespoons) in a bowl. This produces a little under 1 and 1/3 cups of mixture. The amount of gelatin mixture made can be adjusted, but we advise the mixture be 1 part gelatin powder to 6 parts water to create a consistency that is not too thick or too liquid.
2. After mixing, apply to cleansed hair (saturate) and leave in for five minutes. At this point, the gelatin may begin to harden and the hair may start to stiffen. DO NOT PANIC. The gelatin will come out when rinsed. After rinsing off the gelatin, deep condition the hair to soften.
3. Rinse off deep conditioner, then apply leave in conditioner followed by oil to seal, and style as desired.
